Most hoodoo shops and botanicas sell oils, but almost none will ever share the secrets of their signature recipes. It takes learning directly from another rootworker or careful study of herbs, roots, and those who do share their recipes to piece together how to make the best oils. From thorough research and experimentation, I’ve shared my own oil recipes that you may also use to inspire your personal blends and mixtures.

Feel free to customize any of these recipes depending on which ingredients you have on hand or what you grow in your garden, backyard, or kitchen. Your ancestors may be guiding you through your intuition when you feel called to add or remove certain ingredients as you make your own oil blends.

Why is this content protected?

The internet has become an incredible platform for sharing about rootwork and helping our community connect with each other to reclaim our heritage in these traditions. Unfortunately, publicly posting also opens up a whole world of possibilities for cultural appropriation, spreading misinformation, and other issues…

For all these reasons, the Library is only accessible to those who have an approved Library account in order to keep all the content in the hands of those who truly can practice hoodoo. Only people of African descent have the ancestral link to rootworking traditions that is necessary to practice them.
